Justin Scharr Reveals!

Margie : September 6, 2010 3:58 pm : Community Life, Entertainment, Fundraising, HIV, Margie, Personal life, Press This, Public Health, fitness, podcasts, sexual health

Hello Muffins:

Busy and productive day as usual.  As the summer concludes and the business of Back To School and holiday planning begins I find myself in a very reflective mood.  So much has happened in the past year for which I am grateful.  One thing that occurred was the collaboration between Heres-Margie and My Scene City to bring you Mrs. Pederson’s Twin Cities Got Talent.  Justin Scharr, the winner of the talent show, stopped by this afternoon to tell me about the news in his world.  We recorded a very brief podcast to update you all.  Just under ten minutes it is a quick listen and jam packed full of “Good Stuff”!  Thanks for stopping by Justin and congrats on the new directions your life is taking.

Make it a great day everyone.

Love & Peace,

Margie

Harm Reduction Sue & Adam Style

Muffins:

Last night I had the fabulous opportunity to chat with Adam Fairbanks and Sue Purchase about Harm Reduction.  They are amazingly compassionate activists who have a discernible point about needle exchange to share.  Not sure what needle exchange is or what Harm Reduction is all about?  Listen to the show and learn more!

I hope you all will spend a little time this holiday weekend crafting your perfect life.

Love & Peace,

Busy Doesn't Cover It!

Margie : August 13, 2010 2:53 pm : Community Life, Drag, Entertainment, Home, Public Health, fitness, podcasts

Well Muffins, it has been a while since the last post and it hasn’t been for lack of effort.  So much is happening behind the scenes it will be tough to update you on all of it.  Being the celebrity spokesperson for the Pounds-4-Pride 2010 Campaign brought to you by the Rainbow Health Initiative is fun and challenging!  There are community partners stepping up to the plate with exclusive deals for P-4-P members and there are so many interesting challenge statements coming in!  Stay tuned in the weeks ahead to learn more and celebrate in out community success stories!

I am literally burning the many hours of captured video from the LGBTQ leadership trip that occurred earlier this summer even as I write this.  Next step is to upload and produce the video for all of you to enjoy on TheColu.mn.

Check out LDA online!

Then there is the upcoming recording session of Listener’s Discretion Advised.  Tomorrow much of the original cast plus a few add ons will record a whole batch of new shows for the fall.  Keep posted as we further develop that site and upgrade the original podcast with new content.  We may be entering the dog days of summer but this is no time to be dog tired! Off to get in a quick round of exercise before heading to see Wicked tonight.  Hope this finds you all well and rested and enjoying all the good Minnesota offers us in the summer!

Love & Peace,

In Case You Missed It!

Margie : August 7, 2010 9:21 pm : Community Life, Drag, Entertainment, Fundraising, Margie, Moisha, Other Bites and Bytes

Hello Muffins:

Last Saturday night in the Bolt Underground the Summer Mismatched Games were held. Normally I am ever-so-pleased to be up on the stage as a celebrity but I did have a bit of a headache and my dear Gal Pal Miss Glori Halleluia was in the audience. Wanting to correct the situation of my being under the brights and Glori in the shadows I worked it out with Management to pull the old switch-a-roo! Watch the slide show and then go to TheColu.mn Flickr site for all the great photos. I have more news on Glori coming soon so stay tuned in!

Perhaps You've Heard

Margie : July 18, 2010 6:29 pm : Community Life, Drag, Entertainment, HIV, Home, Margie, Other Bites and Bytes, Public Health, fitness

Muffins:

I am so excited to tell you about all that has been happening over the past few weeks.  Now that we’ve made it past the Gay High Holiday of Twin Cities Pride and The Fourth of July things may simmer down a bit.  Quickly approaching the dog days of summer there is still plenty of outdoor recreation and fabulous Minnesota living ahead.  This morning marked the closure of yet another Red Ribbon Ride.

The ceremonies were held on the mall of the Minnesota State Capitol.  With riders flooding the mall at just before the scheduled time of 1:30pm the crowd – smaller than in recent year’s passed was in full support.  Only one potentially serious condition (dehydration) was treated on Saturday and all riders were able to finish what they started.  Moving speeches and tired faces were testimony that the individuals who rode, crewed, supported and encouraged were there for good reason.  HIV in Minnesota continues to rise and we need to continue the efforts of prevention and supporting the organizations that are working to educate about HIV prevention and serve those who are HIV positive, living with AIDS and all who are affected by the pandemic.

It is not too late to give to this very worthwhile charity.

On another note, I have signed on to be the official spokesperson for the Rainbow Health Initiative’s Pounds-4-Pride campaign.  You can learn more about the campaign by going to the official site.  My public challenge is with Lucy Stoole to lose 30 pounds each between Twin Cities Pride (June 28th) and October 1, 2010.   So far I have lost 14 and am feeling healthier than I have felt in years.

One last bit to report is that yesterday I had my first speaking line in an independent film.  Look for more to come from that experience.  No matter what life brings you, please take a moment to cherish it!  We learn from negative experience, grow from change and sorrow and are rewarded by joyful experiences.  Each day is a gift and a new opportunity.

Thank you riders, crew and all who were a part of this year’s ride!

Love & Peace,

Margie

Gene switches sexual desires of female mice

Xochial Crash : July 12, 2010 9:13 am : Community Life, GLBT Youth, Home, Other Bites and Bytes, Personal life, Xochial

Hi there kiddies,

How would you feel if there was a choice in your sexuality? Would you choose to remain a gay person if you could flip a switch and be attracted to the opposite sex?

This is a question that I have wrestled with for most of my life. I know that it would be so much easier and maybe less emotionally taxing if I could be sexually attracted to the opposite sex, then I could settle down and have a family and live a normal happy life.

But, then I have to ask myself “Why is that any better than how I am today?” Would flipping that magic switch really make my life any different than it is now? Or would it just change who I am sexually attracted to?

If being gay has already defined who I am, by this I mean growing up a young gay person with NO role models to identify with and learn how to be a successful gay person, would I still be the insecure shy introvert that I am today. Would I be a more gregareous person if seeing that being gay was not the damnation that all of heterosexuality made it out to be when I was a kid.

Would I have grown up and repeated the mistakes that millions of heterosexuals have made eon after eon. Marrying someone because I thought I loved them, only to discover years later that I really didn’t and cheated on them? As evidenced by my fathers second marriage, his second wife did just this, I learned more about how to hate someone for this behaviour than to admire it.

I really do not know how to answer this question for myself as it is something that I think about often. Usually when I am feeling blue and down.

So, if you want to read the article that has spawned this question, click here.

So, TTFN kiddies,

TV Land Hits A Homer!

Margie : June 23, 2010 11:23 pm : Entertainment, Home, Margie, Other Bites and Bytes

Muffins:

In their first ever original production, TVLand managed to not only gather up the star power but they also hit it out of the park!  Hot In Cleveland is a charming look at what it is to be in middle America and to be less than Hollywood HOT!  Featuring many of my favorite stars – Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick coming together to play three displaced LA wonder girls who find themselves in Cleveland and oddly loving (OK tolerating) it!

Betty White once again scores as the amazing talent that carries the show.  Her one liners are zingingly delivered to her co-stars who are currently about the same age as was she when she was starring in The Golden Girls!  Being the last golden girl standing she continues to be a wonderful talent and capable of stealing the stage.

The show is refreshingly irreverent and a throwback to an earlier time of sitcoms being shot in front of “live studio audiences” as opposed to relying on sound stages and laugh tracks alone.

Bravo TVLand and BRAVA ladies!

I look forward to the season of which I will be the beginning of a long long run!

Oh – and best of all – is available streaming online at TVLand.com

Love & Peace,

Size Matters

Margie : June 5, 2010 7:10 pm : Entertainment, GLBT Rights, Margie, Other Bites and Bytes, Sexual Life, education

Hello Muffins:

Recently TheColu.mn reported that the  work of local artist, Marc DeBauch was “Too Erotic” to be displayed at the Pride Art Show.  This was met with a flurry of opinion and outrage from the LGBT community.  In response to the censorship the artist took matters into his own hands and waged an email campaign to admonish the decision publicly.  The strategy was an effective one as the initial reaction of the Director of the show was overturned.

Original Submission

Original submission

The Executive Director of the 2010 Twin Cities Gay Pride (TCGP) celebration – Dot Belstler was in communication with the artist and stated that she was not in support of the earlier decision.  Not only is the artist’s work now going to be displayed in the show – but here’s the twist, the nature of the piece going on display grew in its erotic appeal.  The artist was so infuriated with the censorship that he re-crafted one of the works he had submitted to match his original vision for the piece.  The work the show decided to display is entitled “Morning on the Balcony”.  It is the most erotic and revealing of the three pieces entered.  After the initial determination the artist gave the male nude in the piece a larger appendage – more in keeping with the work many of us are familiar with and appreciate this artist for.   Without knowledge of the rendering being altered the decision was made to have “Morning on the Balcony” in the show.  When notified of the decision, the artist explained that the work was re-crafted.  Thankfully the work is still going to be publicly displayed at the show.  Whether this is a case of public opinion creating change or not is murky.  It is encouraging, however, to think that when we use our collective voices we can influence leaders.  In this case, congratulations to the artist for not taking it lying down!  Oh – and by the way – Size DOES Matter!  See for yourself.

The "Bromosexual"

Xochial Crash : April 29, 2010 2:01 am : Community Life, GLBT Rights, GLBT Youth, Home, Other Bites and Bytes, Personal life, Sexual Life, Xochial, education

Hi there kiddies,

I have a question for you. Do all openly gay men have to act like flaming queens to be gay?

I was reading an article at The New York Observer site tonight and was shocked at my own feelings towards this question. It seems that there is a “trend” towards gay men acting more “straight” and not as “gay”. On the one hand, it seems only natural that there would be gay men who do not “radiate gayness” as there are straight men that don’t “radiate hetero-ness”.

I find that gay-ness is very much like the rainbow. There are the red gays, those who scream “I am GAY!!!” just from the swish of their hips as they stroll down the street. Then there are the violet gays, those who scream ” I am not so GAY!”, also from the way their hips don’t swish as they stroll down the street, and there are those inbetween.
Which is better? Which is worse?
I can’t answer that as I am not one to judge how others live their lives. I can only answer that for me, I feel I am probably an orange-y yellowish. Kind of in the middle. I do not carry my gay-flame in the palm of my hand all the time, but I also do not try to hide it.

So, there, I think that is the apex of my thought. I do not try to hide being gay.

Are those who seem to not radiate gay trying to hide it? Or is it a leftover from when they were in the closet, that mask of straightness that they do not want to let go of. Or, are they really that middle of the road in mannerisms and speech that one can not detect. And if so, are they intentionally trying to act straight, albeit on a subconscious level?

I again will ask you!

So, if you want to read the entire article, I will link it here.

Leave me a comment on what your thoughts are on this.

Sarah Sloane Hits Minnesota Like A Tidal Wave!

Margie : March 30, 2010 8:36 pm : Community Life, Entertainment, HIV, Margie, Public Health, Sexual Life, education, podcasts, sexual health

Make no bones about it Folks – and by that I mean Muffins!

Sarah Sloane is a force to be reckoned with!  Not only was she in town briefly to deliver two well attended talks about BDSM and kink at The Smitten Kitten, but she also had the chance to give a presentation at Beyond the Boxes at the University of Minnesota.  Beyond the boxes, the first of its kind LGBTQ Mental Health conference nationally was held at Coffman Union on the campus of the University of Minnesota on Friday March 26, 2010.  Sarah is a popular expert and lecturer on kink and I was fortunate enough to not only attend her workshop at the conference but also to follow up with a podcast for Listener’s Discretion Advised.

Thanks to The Smitten Kitten and to Sarah for delighting us with several days of kink filled discussion and learning.

Love & Peace,

Why Fight Homophobia?

Margie : February 17, 2010 9:13 am : Entertainment, GLBT Rights, GLBT Youth, HIV, Home, Margie, Personal life, Public Health, education, podcasts

Muffins:

Perhaps you have not heard about a great project submitted to the Pepsi Refresh Project so I am here to tell you about it once more.  I also would like to share a video with you and help to connect the dots.  If funded, the project “Not The Only One” will gather up the LGBT voices from around Minnesota to tell their stories.  Why?  It is a project intending to locate and broadcast rural Minnesotan LGBT voices in an attempt to reduce homophobia by sharing our collective humanity.

Unchecked homophobia is no different than any other ism (sexism, racism, etc.) and the ill effects hatred and bigotry have on our communities and our world.  Homophobia’s ill effects include increased rates of teen depression and suicide, hate motivated crime and violence, and can impact so many other areas in a person’s life.

The Trevor Project states

“Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth who come from a rejecting family are up to nine times more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers (2007 San Francisco State University Chavez Center Institute).”

You Can Help!

Please watch this powerful video created by the good people behind “In The Moment” and then vote for the “Not The Only One”

Love & Peace,

Margie

Meefers and TheColu.mn On the Rise

Margie : January 15, 2010 8:40 pm : GLBT Rights, education, podcasts

Muffins:

It has been just over a year since I recorded a podcast with Meefers.com (January 6, 2009) and I am happy to tell you that their success is continuing.  At the time of the podcast they were just under one year in the making and were covering five GLTBA friendly cities.

Since that time they have gone on to add 7 additional cities making their expansive reach from shore to shore an impressive feat.  Life and business partners Clayton  Ebert and Patrick Schaller certainly have been up to some good as they bring us stories and news affecting and representing the queer community from all over the United States.

Locally a similar organization began as a whisper early in the year of 2009 and is emerging as another voice of the community to be reckoned with.  TheColu.mn announced its voice officially at Twin Cities Gay Pride last June and has been growing in recognition and popularity since.

Both of these media sources are community driven and supportive of hosting community voice.  Serving as part blog, part multimedia platform and part social media platform they are accomplishing what they set out to achieve – namely – representation.  As online media sources the overheads to keep them going are minimal, so much more can be accomplished on far less.  Therefore, anticipate that both of these new kids on the block will weather the storm economically and be here to serve you for years to come.

If you haven’t had a chance to check them out yet – take a moment to taste what they are offering.  I am sure you will be glad you did!

Here’s to a new year and a fresh start!

Love & Peace,

LDA working copy

Muffins:

This is indeed an exciting day for the ole P!  I have been busy on the horn confirming details and the line up for the pitch (tomorrow) of Listener’s Discretion Advised.  We did a pilot a number of months back on Mrs. Pederson’s Podcasting Fabulosity (actually it was more like a show with Miss Cee Cee Russell which was a little bawdier than I normally would air on my channel) that received favorable reviews.  Since that time I have been chatting with a number of people (and have put up a few more shows catering to that type of audience – and you KNOW who you are) who have indicated they want MORE MORE MORE!

Well, I am no one to challenge an audience so you will soon be getting it.  More that is.  More crass, more ass and certainly more sass!

Stay tuned as we launch the new show and I get to reclaim my original intent for the first podcast.  I sure hope some of you will from time to time take a moment to listen in on the show that started the mayhem (no compromising intended Minneapolis Gay Rugby bois).

Here’s to Cheers & Jeers!

The Weekend Was A Blur...

vid-shot-kendra.jpgMuffins:

This past weekend had so many amazing things occur that I was swept away and am just nowing settling a bit to recap.  Friday night was the Hips ‘N Lips Drag Show down at Rumours in Saint Paul.  Those ladies served it up for us and it was so nice to see (and hear) TiNea back up on the stage.  If you’ve not yet been to one of these shows you really should try to take one in.  Yesterday was the final competition of One Man Minneapolis and what any incredible show it was.  I just visited with Erin Schwab a couple of hours ago about the technical difficulties experienced during one of her segments of the show and we laughed over what could have been avoided if the tech crew whould have known there was a performance going on… You will be able to read more about the show on Meefers.com.

This morning was the closing ceremony for the Red Ribbon Ride and it was an emotional ending to what was a great ride.  I chatted with many friends who were either riders or crew for this year’s event and they all should be so proud!  Congrats to everyone who participated in the ride this year.  I mean EVERYONE; from the donors, to the supporters, to the riders and crew.  It was especially nice to also see Kari Mitchell, Executive Director for The Hartford Breast Cancer Ride and former Executive Director for The Red Ribbon Ride present to lend support.

bachelor20091.jpgThis Sunday is the 2009 PrideAlive Bachelor Auction.  The event will be bigger and better than ever and is, of course, going to benefit the AIDS Walk for the Minnesota AIDS Project and organizations serving people with HIV and AIDS.

The AIDS Walk website states:

All proceeds are used to stop HIV in Minnesota.
The Minnesota AIDS Walk benefits the Minnesota AIDS Project, a nonprofit agency committed to enhancing the lives of people living with HIV, prevention education for those at risk for HIV, and advocating for the rights of all affected by HIV. Click here to find out more about the organization.

Every Little Bit Helps!

Because of our economy, HIV funding has been greatly decreased. Even small donations are greatly appreciated. Something as small as packing a lunch and donating the $10 you saved is a perfect way to contribute! Now more than ever, your support is needed to help MAP achieve its mission to stop HIV in Minnesota.”

I am so fortunate to be surrounded by talented individuals who work well together.  Yesterday I completed a project that began much earlier this year and is the result of a collaboration with The Smitten Kitten (TSK).  The idea grew out of a podcast I recorded with Jennifer Pritchett, owner of TSK.  Justin C Grey Day was the camera person and the video stars Clare Jacky, Alison Nowak, Scott Schroeder, Kyle Long, Tom Reid, Holly Bifulk, Moisha Lipshitz and none other than yours truly.

The video is about Toxic Toys and their safe disposal.  I hope you will take the time to watch it and do what you can to help clean up our environment.  It is campy and fun but carries with it a message of public health and environmental responsibility.

ti-nea_resized.jpgHello Muffins:

It was a very busy weekend last and I am still a bit tired as a result.  I wanted to take a moment to just say that I am so blessed to have such wonderful people surrounding me these days.  Be that the dear old friends that will drop a hat and go to coffee on a whim (so long as it means being able to stop at the dog park too) or the brand new acquaintance who is willing to stop and chat for a moment on the way to the coffee shop.  You each have gifts and talents and I appreciate when you share them with the rest of us.  One such gifted person is none other than Ti-Nea’.  Last Saturday night Mary Brewster organized an amazing event at the Townhouse to raise money for Miss Ti-Nea‘ and the house was a sell out!  Standing room only for those of us who made it and I am still just astounded by the love and energy that filled the air.  Ti-Nea’ was so gracious as she welcomed a hug, handshake and smile from everyone who took their turns at stopping by to greet her personally.  She looked great and seemed to be having a marvelous time soaking in the adoration we all shared with her.  Congrats again on a great evening of fundraising and rallying around our dear sister.

On another note, we wrapped up most of the recording for our upcoming Earth Day release of The Green Faerie Plants the Seeds…  Stay tuned for that fun video and then let us know what you think.  Thanks to the entire staff at the Smitten Kitten for all of the accommodations and support in making this vision a reality.  Special thanks to Justin C Grey Day for his patience and masterful handling of multiple lenses.

New shows up on the podcast too.  Check them out and as always – try to stay out of trouble!

Love & Peace,

Alanopussy?

Margie : March 19, 2009 6:48 am : Home, education, podcasts

octomom_you_decide.jpgRecently while sitting at the table with Coo Coo Cox, I learned of the Octomom.  I had no idea there was this strange story of a new bizarre character to amaze us.  Upon some investigation – we discovered an online video of Nadya Suleman and Ann Curry on NBC’s Today Show.  I immediately recognized a similarity – can you?

alanopussy_2.jpgSorry Alanis!  I know it isn’t flattering, but hey it is uncanny!

A brand new show just went up with Coo Coo Cox and Buffy Van Buren chatting it up with Mrs. P.

Just 15 minutes so you can have a quick listen while you’re trimming your nails.

Have a great day all!

coocooretouched.JPGMuffins:

I just finished the final edits on yet another new show that will be going up on Wednesday this week.  This time my lovely co-hosts were none other than Coo Coo Cox AND the fabulous Buffy Van Buren!  We ramble, we gossip and most of all we intersperse some good old fashioned know how – giving you some things to ponder.  I can’t wait to get the show up there.  In the meantime why not listen to the show Coo Coo and I did last week.  Also check out the new Squidoo lensI just put up about sexual health negotiations.

Spring?

Margie : March 13, 2009 9:37 am : education, fitness, podcasts

Muffins:

It truly is hard to believe that we are just days away from Spring and yet the weather is acting like a ping pong ball.  I am pleased to say that the lengthening days are helping with moods (my own included) all around me.  If you are still in the slumps here are a couple of things you might try…

I found a new online magazine called Chase Rivers Flair

chaserivers.jpgNow you know how much I adore Martha, but alternatives are good as well.  I liked the magazine enough to share it with all of you.  It did a lot to pick up my day and heighten my enthusiasm for the much anticipated sights and smells that come with spring.

I will be back soon to share all kinds of news, special reports and, of course, podcasts!

Enjoy your weekends all!

Jerry Hughes - Take Two

jerry-radio.jpgMuffins:

Delays, delays, delays… sometimes it seems that is all we are offered these days.  I meant to get this podcast up at the end of 2008 and then more time sensitive recordings took precendent.  I apologize if some of the information seems dated.  The interview itself is good and shows even more of the unique character of Jerry HughesThe Hughes Foundation is still growing, strengthening and in need of your support.  Whether you are interested in volunteering for, donating to or collaborating with the Hughes Foundation – now would be a good time to contact them.  I am confident you will be glad you did.

Hello Muffins:

We’ve had a lot of activity this past week and so I am simply going to post a few links to help capture it all.

Sunday night we had our Oscar night celebration and Friends Dining with Friends event to benefit Clare Housing.  You can read all about it on Meefers.com.

muffy-coo-coo-and-john.JPG

On Monday my dear friend Xochial Crash and I did a podcast about the night before and wondered where Cee Cee Russell and Camille Collins wandered off to.

On Wednesday another show went up on the podcast featuring Kate Nelson, Public Policy Coordinator for the Minnesota AIDS Project.

Today I planned the next video which will be a collaboration between Mrs. Pederson’s production company (See You Next Tuesday Productions) and The Smitten Kitten.  You won’t want to miss it as I am sure it will delight!

Quite a productive week I’d say.  Hope yours was as well!

Listener's Discretion Advised

Margie : February 17, 2009 9:55 pm : Drag, podcasts

Cee Cee RussellWell Muffins, I finally had the chance to bring Cee Cee Russell back on the podcast and this time with Miss Camille Collins.  And what a show it was!  We had such a lively discussion about everything from bereavement to poop!  We enjoyed ourselves so much that we’ve decided to add the new show to the line-up here in P Land and will be bringing it to you once a week!  The name of the new show is “Listener’s Discretion Advised“.  It will be irreverent, sassy and sometimes educational.  Most of all – it will be inspired by our listeners.  The idea is simple really.  You send in your questions, comments, ideas for upcoming show topics and we will read one or more of them on the air.  If you send in a topic that is selected for the show AND you send us a digital photo and permission to put it up on the site we will arrange to have you on the show via phone in recording.  This will be fun and we rely on you to help us.  Send your thoughts to Mrspederson@gmail.com

camille.jpg

Remember – this show is an equal opportunity offense so if you don’t like that sort of thing – go away!  But not too far ’cause there is still plenty of other stuff for you here at Heres-margie – like the party this upcoming Sunday for Oscar Night!

I hope you enjoy the show!

The Blurriest Weekend EVER!

Margie : February 17, 2009 12:38 am : Drag, Margie, education, podcasts

Hello Muffins:

Just a quick note before I am off to bed.  Beginning last Friday,, when Miss Wanda Wisdom had me on her show, (Luckybitchradio.com) I have been on a bit of a roller-coaster ride.  I had to travel out to Maple Plain to evaluate a future site for some activities I am planning and then I The Fearless Hunterneeded to tend to matters closer to home for the remainder of the weekend.  Valentine’s day, as many of you already know, I needed to begin the process of saying goodbye to my dear companion Benny.  Benny was a strong feline I had in my life for nearly 15 of his 18 years.  He was a gentle giant and loved by many – he will be missed.  Through the encouragement of friends & family I did still manage to get out to the Saloon for a nice meal with my friend Gosh Alice Jones.  I must applaud Chef Douglas Bistrup and the entire staff of the new Fire Bar and Restaurant in the fireside room (formerly the smoking patio) at the beloved complex on the corners of 9th and Hennepin in downtown Minneapolis.  I will do a separate post on the food (which was fantastic) in the next day or so.  I will also be putting up a fun little video that we managed to record that night in spite of the other goings on.  Sunday rolled around and poor Benny needed me to intervene when he was ready for his final call.  So after many tears and consultation, dear Nurse Linda and Matthew (housemate) assisted in my bringing him to the Animal Humane Society to be put down and cremated.  Benny – you are still so present in our lives and we thank you for the love and joy you brought us for so many years – rest in peace dear friend.  Today was a day of sadness and reflection as I poured through old photos of my dear companion, along with many friends and family who also were touched by his presence.  Later this afternoon, I was visited by two other dear friends Cee Cee Russell and Camille Collins.  We decided to record part of our chat and that grew into a brand new idea.  We are going to begin another brand new podcast!  We are calling it Listener Discretion Advised!  I hope to have the first show up tomorrow (with disclaimers!)

We chat about everything from Ms. Collins fishing for a date for the upcoming Oscar Night Celebrations to bereavement and the importance of appreciating what each day brings.

Thank you ladies – you brought joy into an otherwise very sad day.

Stay tuned for the announcement of the new podcast.  Dont’ worry Mrs Pederson will still be putting up new shows on podbean as well.  Oh – and if you did not catch the progrum with Wanda, here’s a link to it.

Smitten Kitten Thriving

Margie : February 12, 2009 8:54 am : HIV, Home, Public Health, education, podcasts, sexual health

Visit TSK OnlineMuffins:

Recently I had an opportunity to sit down with the owner of The Smitten Kitten, Jennifer Pritchett.  We had a lovely chat and I recorded part of it for the podcast that is going up along with this post.

visit badvibes.orgFor those of you not in the know, The Smitten Kitten (TSK) is an adult toy store located in Minneapolis on the corners of Lyndale and Lake.  They’ve been around now for five years and Jennifer has just recently started blogging on Facebook.  The store is committed to not only bringing you fun toys to spice up your life.  They also are very committed to bringing about awareness that relates to what is sometimes referred to as “Toxic Toys”.  They do this through the non-profit division of their work and the corresponding website “Coalition Against Toxic Toys”.  Sexual health awareness is always something that is freely discussed when you step in the store.  In fact, the words of my dear freind Gosh Alice Jones, “Sexual Freedom ; Social Responsibility” are what often come to mind when I am chatting with any of the very educated staff.  If you are a far away reader, never fear – the new website has much of the same info and all of the toys you can purchase in the store can be ordered online and discretely shipped directly to your door.  This spring, Mrs P and TSK have something big lined up for Earth Day so stay tuned.

Listen to the show!

Until then, take a moment and listen to the show.

You might just learn something.

Cold Morning, Hot Coffee

Lee Haugee from Clare HousingWell Muffins, there really isn’t any finer way to start a chilly Minnesota morning than a chat with a good friend and enjoying a strong cuppa Joe at the kitchen table.

This morning I had the pleasure of visiting with Lee Haugee, Special Event and Volunteer Manager for Clare Housing.  The good folks at Clare Housing have been providing supportive living services to people with HIV and AIDS for years now.  We recorded the conversation and you can listen to on our little podcast.

Listen to the show and learn about all the ways in which you can be a part of the action.  More importantly stay tuned as later today I will be revealing all of the details about the upcoming benefit for Clare Housing that I will be co-hosting with none other than Xochial, Nurse Linda and sex Eddie.  I am so proud of the P Team for their work behind the scenes to support organizations like Clare Housing.

Thanks Lee, for taking time out of your hectic schedule to sit a spell with P!

What an Amazing Day...

Margie : January 21, 2009 1:16 pm : GLBT Youth, Home, Public Health, education, podcasts

Yesterday was a very special day for me Muffins.

Not only did I watch in wonder as we swore in our first Black President, but I was able to then spend time in the evening with a diverse and dedicated group of individuals all connected by a common thread.

The event I attended was one sponsored by the Rainbow Health Initiative and PFund and was hosted by Marnita’s Table.  I encourage you to click on the links for each of those organizations to learn more.

Let me simply say in this posting that the conversation was centered around what it takes to build strong, healthy individuals and a strong LGBT community.  People of all different ethnicity, ages and orientations gathered around a single task – to define what health is and what it looks like in our own lives and in our community.  The contributions each person made were insightful and congruent with the task.

The event could not have happened on a better day.  I will say that I was able to first hand experience the change this is at our feet.  Change that could not happen at a better time since we now face so many community wide challenges.  Through the conversation stimulated by this diverse group coming together, I was able to visualize how real change may occur.  There is nothing we cannot handle if we simply gather together to work as a community on the problems.  We also need to celebrate our successes and share them with others.  Eating a meal together with people who are not like you, be that race or opinion or orientation or difference, is a great way to break down barriers in order to start building new foundations!

Opportunities exist for each of us to do this.  One such opportunity is a photo contest depicting a healthy LGBT community so we can begin to combat a frequently promoted yet grossly inaccurate picture of the LGBT community as somehow flawed or less than healthy.

That is why I took time out a few days ago to interview Loretta Worthington, Executive Director for Rainbow Health Initiative about a project they are doing in conjunction with Lavender Smoke Free Communities.

 Listen to the show

mrs_pederson_itunes.jpg

The project is a photo contest depicting a healthy LGBT community.  The interview is up on the podcast site and I encourage you to listen to it.  I also encourage you to go to the website and learn about the contest.  You can go directly to the the contest info by clicking on the image below.

On the dash now so I will simply end this post by saying

Thank You!!!!

Margie : January 4, 2009 6:13 pm : Drag, Margie, Moisha, Steven Hintz, Xochial, education, podcasts

Last night , as Xochial mentioned in her earlier post, was the year end holiday celebration of the P Team.

The Independent We celebrated at (as you might imagine) The Independent in Uptown Minneapolis.

I believe all who attended had a good time and I left feeling energized as well as accomplished.  It is always fun to gather with those who spurn your creativity and bring additional talent and skills to your work team.  In March 2008 we created Heres-Margie.com and since that time we’ve been able to go live in May of 2008, build out P’s Sexy Sinema in June of that same year and begin our own podcasting as of August 2008.  mrs_pederson_itunes.jpgThe very talented team of contributors (the P Team) who strive to provide a site that is content rich with something for almost anyone over the age of 18, partied together and enjoyed the fruits of our success in what is not yet even a full year of operating.

A very warm and special thanks to the P Team and guests who were at the soiree to help celebrate the first year of amazing accomplishment.  Without each of you we would not still be around.  Because of you – I am looking forward to continuing the development of Heres-Margie and to bringing our readers and listeners more fun, education and community-building opportunities in the year ahead.

A very special thanks to Sam and the Indy for helping me put on such a fantastic party.

I look forward to spending more time with each of you soon.

Just a quick note...

Margie : December 30, 2008 8:47 pm : Home, Public Health, fitness, podcasts, sexual health

to tell you all that I am very excited about the upcoming New Year!  2009 will be so instrumental in so many things.  The United States of America have elected Barack Obama.  People are communing and organizing over incredible odds: finance, world health issues, worldwide disputes and offense, most importantly (in my eyes) Gay marriage.  But, in spite of it all…  Good folk like Jerry Hughes has an amazing spirit and hope that Mrs. P thinks is FABULOUS!!!!

I am going to go back now and sip another glass of great red wine and discuss all that life is…with none other than the world famous Jerry Hughes.

Tomorrow is the day we begin our journey forward.  Will it be easy?  NO WAY JOSE!  Will we make it?  I think so, I hope so, I pray for it and cast for it… I know this much is true.  It will only be so, if at least 50% plus 1 believe it can happen.  Let’s take time to believe in our future – send out well wishes to someone you’d almost forgotten about – or someone you’ve yet to be introduced to.

Love & Peace

Congrats Miss R 1981!

Margie : December 16, 2008 11:45 am : Drag, podcasts

mrsrich.jpgWell Muffins, as you may well know from the recent podcast with Miss Richfield 1981, she just completed a successful run with her holiday show at the Illusion Theater in downtown Minneapolis.

She was her typical terrific self, offending each and every member of her audience equally – it was a romp-a-minute lalapalooza!  Miss R managed to pull up to the stage one of my favorite partners at Heres-Margie for a bit of public embarassment.  She chose none other than our Editor Matthew to come sit on her couch and get “Therapized”.

I will post a few pics later in the day but for now I just wanted to say Thanks Miss R for a terrific night!  For those of you who missed the show you can see what is coming up next for this local talent at http://www.missrichfield.com/

As always,

Margie : October 15, 2008 10:14 pm : Home, podcasts, sexual health

Hello Muffins:

On the dash as usual, but wanted to let you know that I was able to snag Mr. James Nelson for a very candid interview about the behind the scenes goings on at my favorite Happy Hour in the Twin Cities.  The Independent Bar & Restaurant in Uptown, Minneapolis is a fresh and fabulous concept in neighborhood gathering spots.  The owners, a delightful couple (James & Jane), are the most industrious entrepreneurs I know.  The service staff are the hardest working and most entertaining folks I can think of.  Listen to this wonderful interview as we discuss everything from the “mayblo cocktail” to the family atmosphere that they create for both patrons and their staff.

Here’s to a fab 5 years and wishing you many more years of great success in the future!

Keep up the great job of serving and building community!

Matthew Shepard Vigil Tonight

Margie : October 13, 2008 5:52 pm : GLBT Rights, GLBT Youth, HIV, Home, education, podcasts, sexual health

Muffins:tenyearrersized.jpg

It may seem as though we’ve been taking a little nap as of late.  I assure you that simply is not the case!

There have been so many events (like tonight’s vigil in Loring Park honoring Matthew Shepard) to attend as of late that I have not been able to post.

I have also been busy working on recording new podcasts to air over the next couple of weeks.  One of the shows is with Jerry Hughes and will go up this Wednesday.  Another show is with James Nelson, managing partner, from the Independent (P’s favorite restaurant/lounge in Uptown).  The Indy will be celebrating their 5 year anniversary soon and I can’t wait to tell you all about that in the podcast.

Coming up soon, Dave Bucher, MD is going to stop by next week and record a show on the importance of gay & bisexual men coming out to their physicians so as to receive the best possible medical care.   Early in November porn star, Steve Cruz, is going to do a phone interview with P to discuss his website aimed at addressing the production of barebacking in the porn industry.

Have to dash now as there is a candlelight vigil for Matthew Shepard tonight a Loring Park in Downtown Minneapolis.  Can you believe it has been ten years since that young man was slain?  We must all participate in making a change if we are ever to see one occur.

Peace & Love

Author & Lecturer Takes Time Out With Margie.

Margie : October 9, 2008 2:45 pm : Public Health, education, podcasts, sexual health

Hello Muffins:

bill3.jpgI recently had the opportunity to discuss how bisexuals in America are really the “Hidden Orientation”.  This interview challenged me in ways I did not perceive it would.  Mr. William Burleson is the author of the book Bi America.   Recently Mr. Burleson moderated “Beyond HIV”, an event at Macalester College.  The event was a collaboration between the Minnesota Department of Health, the Minnesota AIDS Project, The Rainbow Health Initiative and The Programs for Human Sexuality at the University of Minnesota.

Mr. Burleson has also recently spoken to a group at Hamline University about bisexuality and is what I would consider to be one of the national go to guys on this topic.

He had very interesting perspectives that were thought provoking and enlightening.  I hope you will take time out of your busy lives to take a listen.

Enjoy!

Feeling rested - and thankful...

Margie : October 3, 2008 9:11 pm : Home, Margie, Steven Hintz, podcasts

Hello Muffins:

Many of you have sent me well wishes both yesterday and today and I am very appreciative of your kindness.  As many know, yesterday was my birthday and I went up North to celebrate at a cabin with my man and friends from Here’s Margie: Killain & Steven.  I am very excited that over the past few months we have been able to bring you so much new content on Here’s Margie!

jerry-index3.jpg

I will be back in the saddle on Sunday morning with another guest to interview for the podcast – Jerry Hughes, President of the Hughes Foundation .

The vision of Hughes Foundation is to be a worldwide, inter-religious, holistic and God-centered organization that will be a global voice in stopping the spread of HIV through awareness and by offering hope and care to all who are affected by HIV/AIDS.

Look forward to that important interview posting next Wednesday, October 8, 2008.

I apologize for not putting up this week’s podcast on Wednesday this week – celebrating life seemed more important.

Rest assured that the interview with William (Bill) Burleson, author and lecturer on bisexualtiy, will go up tomorrow morning.

Until then, thanks for being a wonderful part of P’s World.

Jairus Abts is a Real Trooper

Margie : September 27, 2008 3:19 pm : Drag, Home, Margie, podcasts

hedwigresized.jpgJairus Abts was the interview I had scheduled for this morning and he arrived, on time, but stepped right into a mess of technical difficulties.

After being incredibly patient whilst I fumbled through getting us into recording mode, we finally succeeded in taping a wonderful show.

Jairus, as many of you probably are already aware, is the recipient of one of the 2008 Ivey awards.  The awards ceremony was held last Monday and news is so fresh that the official site hasn’t even been updated with the video and pictures of the event.  So there you are, even technical difficulties won’t stop the P Team from getting hot, new content to you.

The interview will post a little later today and we will link you to the official site of the Ivey Awards just as soon as this year’s awards report is updated.

Congratulations Jairus and thanks for the fabulous interview!

Help Us Name The Show!

Margie : September 25, 2008 11:24 pm : Home, Margie, podcasts

Muffins:

visit lucky bitch radio

I am writing to give you an opportunity to contribute to the website. I was on the Lucky Bitch Radio podcast today (hosted by none other than the fabulous Wanda Wisdom). Wanda asked me what we named our podcast show. I fumbled because up until today, we hadn’t named it anything other than “New Feature”.

Here is where YOU come in. For the next few weeks we will be accepting show name suggestions from our readers and listeners.

Send us your ideas. The winner will be invited to be on the show!

you can email Me at:

and you can email Xochial at:

Thanks Much!

Cee Cee Russell Podcast is Posted

Margie : September 25, 2008 12:38 am : Drag, Home, Margie, podcasts

cee-cee-russell.jpgWell Muffins, as promised earlier this month we tracked her down. I just put up a fabulous interview that Xochial and I conducted with Miss Cee Cee Russell a couple weeks ago. We kept it in the can for a bit so we could time it closer to the grand opening of Rumors in St. Paul. Rumors (behind and in the same building as the hip bar Innuendo) is opening on October 3rd. They will have a fantastic new stage for Miss Russell and the talented tribe of other entertainers she attracts to grace. I hope you enjoy the podcast and share with friends near and far!

Thanks for the fun Cee Cee. We can’t wait to do it again!

Kisses,

Margie : September 23, 2008 3:02 am : Home, education, podcasts, sexual health

Just want to take a moment to say that the show I did with the fun kids over at Sex Is Fun went up yesterday afternoon. It is a little over an hour but a lot of laughs so why don’t you just sit down and have a listen?

Technical Difficulties...

Margie : September 17, 2008 9:40 am : Margie, podcasts

Muffins:

Xochail called me in a panic last night to inform me that the show with John Trones cut off after 2:18 minutes.  Got to love the fact that she is a detail queen who likes to keep P on her toes.  It is corrected and you can catch the full show by clicking on the link below.

Take me to the current show

Feeling Like A 3 Way?

Margie : September 17, 2008 1:15 am : Home, Margie, Xochial, podcasts, sexual health

leftmarginjohn.pngMuffins:

Xochial and I went to a show at Hennepin Stages a few weeks back and enjoyed it very much.  It is a comedy called 3 Way produced by 8 Ball Theater.  It is about what happens when three gay men find themselves in bed together – the morning after a night of debauchery and delight!

Suffice it to say that, as they sort out details and their stories, they uncover a significant twist.

Today, Xochial and I had an opportunity to interview one of the stars and co-creators of the show, John Trones.  Sit back and have a listen to the podcast then take yourself out to the show.  this is the last weekend and you can buy your tickets online by clicking on the image below.

Watch out for Cee Cee Russell

Xochial Crash : September 12, 2008 11:07 pm : Xochial, education, podcasts

Hey Kids…

Be on the look out for a new podcast by Margie, myself and Miss Cee Cee Russell.cee-cee-russell.jpg

All I can say is that she is the sweetest and most down to earth girl I have met in a long time. We both, Margie and I, were laughing so hard at one point that we both had tears in our eyes.

So, be on the look out for the post with-in the next few weeks.

So, TTFN Xochial

Hello Muffins:

I am on the dash today but I did manage to get the podcast with Gay Rick and Laura Rad to post properly.  Well don’t I just feel like Martha Stewart with all of my different media platforms? LOL.

Anywho… why not take a listen now?  Click on the image below to go directly to the show.
