Perhaps You’ve Heard

Muffins:

I am so excited to tell you about all that has been happening over the past few weeks.  Now that we’ve made it past the Gay High Holiday of Twin Cities Pride and The Fourth of July things may simmer down a bit.  Quickly approaching the dog days of summer there is still plenty of outdoor recreation and fabulous Minnesota living ahead.  This morning marked the closure of yet another Red Ribbon Ride.

The ceremonies were held on the mall of the Minnesota State Capitol.  With riders flooding the mall at just before the scheduled time of 1:30pm the crowd – smaller than in recent year’s passed was in full support.  Only one potentially serious condition (dehydration) was treated on Saturday and all riders were able to finish what they started.  Moving speeches and tired faces were testimony that the individuals who rode, crewed, supported and encouraged were there for good reason.  HIV in Minnesota continues to rise and we need to continue the efforts of prevention and supporting the organizations that are working to educate about HIV prevention and serve those who are HIV positive, living with AIDS and all who are affected by the pandemic.

It is not too late to give to this very worthwhile charity.

On another note, I have signed on to be the official spokesperson for the Rainbow Health Initiative’s Pounds-4-Pride campaign.  You can learn more about the campaign by going to the official site.  My public challenge is with Lucy Stoole to lose 30 pounds each between Twin Cities Pride (June 28th) and October 1, 2010.   So far I have lost 14 and am feeling healthier than I have felt in years.

One last bit to report is that yesterday I had my first speaking line in an independent film.  Look for more to come from that experience.  No matter what life brings you, please take a moment to cherish it!  We learn from negative experience, grow from change and sorrow and are rewarded by joyful experiences.  Each day is a gift and a new opportunity.

Thank you riders, crew and all who were a part of this year’s ride!

Love & Peace,

Margie
