Texas marriages in legal limbo due to 2005 error, Democrat says | News | Star-Telegram.com.

Beware of hiring the lawyer who drafted this clause.

In Texas, land of G.W.Bush,  has come this little ditty that I think is rather funny: “This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage.”

Now, the people who “crafted” this subsection of the constitutional amendment that was passed in 2005, have only themselves to blame if some one wanted to truly rack the cradle in TX.

In my understanding of the wording of this clause, that the Government of Texas shall not recognize any legal status that is identical or similar to marriage. Uhm, I think that pretty much says that the state can not recognize any legal union of anyone for if they do, they must recognize all of them.

But, that is just my reading of this. I am sure there is another, but I am not a lawyer.
